Everything you log in FlashLog — expenses, categories, budgets, receipt photos, notes — stays on your phone. We never see it, sell it, or send it anywhere, and FlashLog runs no server of its own. The only things FlashLog itself sends anywhere are anonymous usage statistics (which screens get used, whether a save succeeded), crash reports if something breaks, and — only if you agree when asked — an advertising identifier used to show and measure ads. If you back up manually, that file goes wherever you choose to save it (iCloud, Google Drive, email, a computer) — never to us. Separately, if you have your phone’s own backup switched on, your device may include FlashLog’s data the way it does any other app; see “Backup” below.
Every expense, category, budget cap, recurring rule, ledger, note, and receipt photo you create is stored locally in FlashLog’s own storage on your phone. None of it is transmitted to us or to any third party as part of normal use. Receipt photos are copied into the app’s private storage and are read on-device by the phone’s own text-recognition system to help fill in an amount — the photo and the text read from it never leave your phone.
FlashLog uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to understand overall usage (such as which features get used, and app installs and sessions) and to catch bugs. These send anonymous, aggregated usage events and, when something goes wrong, a technical error report (what failed and why, not what you were tracking). We’ve deliberately kept the content of what you log out of this entirely: category names, note text, and merchant names are never included in any analytics event or crash report, even though they’re stored on your device.
FlashLog shows ads through Google AdMob to keep the free version free. AdMob may collect device and advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads. If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, FlashLog asks for your consent before showing personalized ads, using Google’s own consent tool (the User Messaging Platform) — you can change that choice anytime from Settings → About → Ad Privacy Options. Outside those regions, or if you decline personalization, you’ll still see ads, just not tailored to your interests. If you’d rather not see ads at all, FlashLog offers a one-time purchase to remove them entirely.
If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you have the right under GDPR to access, correct, delete, or export a copy of any personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict how it’s processed — though since FlashLog stores your actual expense data only on your own device, there is usually nothing on our servers to access or delete beyond the anonymous analytics described above. If you’re a California resident, you have similar rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what’s collected and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — AdMob’s collection of advertising identifiers can count as “sharing” under this law, which is exactly what the ad consent control above lets you opt out of. To exercise any of these rights, or if you have questions about how they apply to you, email bkappsupport@gmail.com.
FlashLog can export a backup file on request, which you then save wherever you choose using your phone’s own share screen — iCloud Drive, Google Drive, email, a computer, anywhere. That destination is entirely up to you; FlashLog doesn’t operate any server of its own and never sees where the file ends up. Separately, if you have your phone’s own backup turned on (Android’s “Back up to Google” or iPhone’s iCloud backup), your device may include FlashLog’s data in that backup automatically, the same as it does for your other apps — that’s a setting on your phone, not something FlashLog controls.
We don’t require an account or sign-up to use FlashLog. We don’t sell your data. We don’t read, scan, or analyze the content of your expenses, notes, or receipts. We don’t share your financial data with advertisers or any other third party.
You can export or back up your data, restore from a backup, or erase everything FlashLog has stored — including every entry, ledger, and setting — at any time from Settings. Erasing your data removes it from your device immediately; it does not retroactively delete anonymous analytics events already recorded, since those never contained anything identifying you or your entries in the first place.
Since your actual expense data never leaves your device, we don’t hold onto it at all — it exists exactly as long as it’s on your phone. Anonymous analytics events and crash reports are retained by Firebase under Google’s own standard retention periods, after which they’re automatically deleted.
FlashLog itself doesn’t transfer your expense data anywhere — it stays on your device regardless of where you are. The limited anonymous data described above (analytics, crash reports, and ad identifiers if you’ve consented) is processed by Google’s infrastructure, which may involve servers outside your country, under Google’s own compliance frameworks for international data transfers.
FlashLog is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we’ll update the effective date below and, for significant changes, note it in the app.
