Common questions

Where is my data stored?

On your phone, and nowhere else. FlashLog has no account, no sign-in and no server — your expenses are held in a database on the device itself. That's also why the app works with no signal.

The practical consequence: your data is as private as your phone, and it is only on your phone. See the next question.

How do I move to a new phone, or keep a copy?

Use Backup in Settings to write a backup file, and save it somewhere you control — a cloud drive, email to yourself, a computer. On the new phone, install FlashLog and use Restore.

Because nothing is stored on a server, a backup is the only way your history survives a lost or reset phone. It's worth doing before you change devices.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for and no password to forget. Open the app and start logging.

The receipt scan read the wrong total, or couldn't find one

Receipt scanning reads the photo on your device and fills in the amount as a starting point — you can always type over it before saving, and the figure is shown to you first for exactly that reason.

It struggles most with creased, faded or thermal-printed receipts where the total itself is hard to read, and with layouts that print labels and amounts in widely separated columns. If it misses, the photo is still attached to the expense; just correct the amount and save.

How do I remove ads, or restore something I bought?

The ad-free purchase removes banner ads throughout the app. If you've bought it and ads are still there — or you've reinstalled, or moved to a new phone — open the upgrade screen and use Restore Purchases. That re-checks with the App Store or Google Play and unlocks it on any device signed in to the same account.

Purchases can't be restored across platforms: an Android purchase doesn't carry over to an iPhone, because the two stores don't share entitlements.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by the store, not by the app:

iPhone or iPad — Settings → your name → Subscriptions → FlashLog → Cancel.
Android — Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → FlashLog → Cancel.

Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period already paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their own policies, so those requests go through the store.

How do I delete my data?

Deleting the app removes it. Since nothing is stored on a server, there is no copy left behind for me to delete — I never had one. Individual entries can also be deleted inside the app at any time.

What the app does and doesn't collect is set out in the Privacy Policy.

I found a bug, or something looks wrong

Please tell me. Include your device, your OS version, and what you were doing when it happened. Reports like that are where most of this app's fixes have come from — several were found on real phones after passing every automated test.
